The Socks and Sandals Sestina by Joe Etchell

Good day all, heres to lovers, friends and family
All of whom could make it here on this mirthful day.
You are about to witness work by savvy sculptors;
Genius is at play, in both shows; one and two
You are about to behold Socks and Sandals:
'The most face melting art show of our time'.

We set our scene long back in Roman Time,
Ancestors to most of our family.
Evidence suggests, that this great race wore sandals,
and lo' socks were worn too from day-to-day.
Now, we rarely see the amalgam of these two
But none suit them more than this group of sculptors.

Hark back, before you were all artists and sculptors,
Travel through youthful memories from a past time.
Great British Holiday; with 'Fish and chips for two?’
We have all been there; all of the family
Yet each time we go, Dad wears them every day
Fashion enemy number one : socks and sandals

For fashion, is nay kind to these socks and sandals,
Since the first sandal was feigned by ancient sculptors
Socks and Sandals have fought for their place to this day:
'Move over plain old boots! For now, This is our time,
Of all the shoes in the cobblers family,
I bet you don't see Jesus wearing those two'

Respect your elders, salute your footwear. Hup, two...
Hated by all, loved by none, socks and sandals.
Yet we must pay homage as if they were family.
Learn to love thy sandals as we love thy sculptors.
Some say we have aged before our time,
Road is long, so I choose sandals to wear this day.

Look down at the ground, what have you chosen to-day?
Pumps, and heel socks? Maybe the odd goody shoe too?
Do you believe, they will they stand the test of time?
My sandals are worn. But adroit are my sandals.
My sandals are wile. Much like these Sculptors.
My sandals are Sculptors. And we are family.

It doesn’t matter what time of the month year or day
For this new united family invite you to:
The sculptors celebration of Socks and Sandals
