£40 Exhibition

I first heard of this exhibition on the culture show. The collection was bought over a long period during the mid 20th centuary by Tom Alexander on the isle of Arran. He wrote to big names in the contemporary art world such as L.S. Lowrey and asked to puchase works with money that he saved from his pay from the army. The collection was curated in quite a traditional way, works were shown on the walls and there are display cases in the centre of the room with the letters he wrote to the artists, I think these were the most inspiring part of the exhibition, Alexander had a pursuasive way with words that meant that sometimes the artists even appologised for sending the works too late.
