So after a long couple of weeks filled with hard graft and preperation, Hidden Door take 2 was finally here! I was exhibiting in the Garden space a tranquil grassy space where you could escape the humdrum of the varied music downstairs, relax and have a beer or a beer.
To get an idea of what it was all about here is the mission statement from hiddendoor.org:
'Hidden Door is a creative festival that sees 40 bands, 60 artists, 20 poets and 20 film-makers come together for an exclusive weekend in Edinburgh.
The interactive event showcases some of the most creative Scottish talent around, with live music, art installations, poetry, film and interactive events.
Highlights include a spectacular five band collaboration between Dead Boy Robotics, Lipsync for a Lullaby, The Foundling Wheel, Tokamak and American Men (LuckyMe), as well as poetry, art installations and Impossible Interactions - a room which reacts and interacts with the audience.'
The festival took place over 3 days (22-24th October 2010) but unfortunately I was not able to attend till the last day probably a good thing as the quality of bands were amazing Hidden Orchestra was a particular highlight and there was a great finale of 5 bands collaborating together, something Hidden Door encorages to create some exciting and interesting results.
I have to say the quality of art, both musical and visual was not the best in the world, mine included. It was amateur artists and amateur bands in all fairness. However the whole experience was refreshing and new, you didnt have any expectations when you went in so you came out with a whole lot more than you went in with. As far as I could see everyone was enjoying it all despite the quite steep entry fee. I hope to god that hidden door continues to be a success, it has all the makings of a great art show, by the artists for the artists kinda thing, you never know you could be hearing a whole lot more about it in the future it already has had some astonishing reviews from the critics and plugs from well known media institutions:
